Januzak Turdukulov (40 years old) - Tour Operator in Tajikistan and Kyrgystan

When I led my first tour of the Pamir Highway in 2004, I was the first and only guide in Tajikistan. I am a native of the Murghab region in the Eastern Pamir region of Tajikistan and have been working as a tour guide since 2001. I graduated from university in 2001 when I started to work with an organization called ACTED (Agence d'Aide a la Cooperation Technique et au Development) as a local guide for foreign visitors. My initial job experience started with guiding Swiss students throughout Tajikistan and showing them all the tourist attractions of the Pamirs and other parts of Tajikistan. In July 2004 I joined META ( Murghab Eco-Tourism Association), a local association of registered guides and service-providers which was set up with the help of ACTED. I attended many courses for tour guides organized by the organization. In the early days of META I welcomed 58 foreign tourists to Murghab. The same year I traveled to Ladakh, India, to observe the ecotourism development work which was carried out by the UNESCO partner organization Snow Leopard Conservancy. It gave us hands-on training in tourist guiding and we were introduced to new ideas and perspectives in current tourism work. Now simultaneously I work with three organizations that deal with tourism:  ACTED, META and for the last five years with “Pamir Highway Adventures”. My biggest passion is to showcase the beauty of this unexplored country and I can't wait to welcoe you.

Remeber, IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT THE DESTINATION! As the Pamir Highway has become more popular in recent years many inexperienced tour guides and drivers have come to the area to make a quick buck. These drivers do not provide the same experience as us. With us we ensure a fantastic and safe experience.
